New high speed AVE train 'Mediterranean Corridor'
extension due to complete in 2026.

€411 million of additional funding announced by EU with property prices set to explode due to this major infrastructure work.

The European Union has just announced an additional €411 million euros of funding to support the expansion of Spain´s high speed AVE train line connecting Vera, Almeria to Murcia and beyond.  The total planned investment in this strategic Mediterranean Corridor is currently estimated at €3,300 million euros.

There is currently no railway directly connecting Murcia and Almería, and passengers and goods travelling between Almería and other large cities in eastern Spain must go via Madrid. The project thus fills a gap in the rail network in south-eastern Spain, and the EU considers the development of the line a priority, therefore co-financing the project.

All sections of the “Mediterranean Corridor” section linking Murcia to Almeria are currently under construction including numerous viaducts and bridges, 175km of track allowing for speeds of up to 300km/hour as well as a 1,000m2 passenger train station at Vera with 2 platforms, cafes and shops and parking for 200 cars.

A 40,000m2 shopping centre adjoining the train station is also planned which will include a charging station for electric vehicles, retail outlets, car hire and secure parking. This is expected to be completed by 2026.

According to the European Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms Elisa Ferreira, “this key transport infrastructure will have a positive impact on the entire region, and beyond. It will make life easier, safer and increase opportunity for passengers and businesses alike. By reducing emissions, it will help the EU reach its goal of a greener, more sustainable future for all”.

The AVE high speed network will reach 4,000 km in length across Spain this year consolidating itself as the largest in Europe and the second largest in the world.

Travel times via the new AVE from Vera will be just 40 minutes to Murcia, 2 hours Valencia, 3 hours to Madrid and 4 hours to Barcelona.

According to some sources, property prices are set to explode, increasing by 30% or more due to this major infrastructure work which will help bring more visitors and tourists from elsewhere in Spain and further afield to this important Costa.

At ADC Property, we believe that property values in Valle del Este Golf Resort will also benefit greatly from this major new infrastructure works with buyers benefiting from the uplift in prices as the works are completed.
